# What is the bounce list in Sarbacane Contacts?

Understand how Sarbacane automatically sets invalid addresses and numbers aside from your sendings.

The bounce list groups email addresses and phone numbers that are permanently invalid, also called hard bounces. Sarbacane fills it automatically after each of your sendings, and the contacts it contains are set aside from your next campaigns. There is only one bounce list per account.

## What makes a contact a bounce

- A misspelled or non-existent email address.

- A deleted mailbox.

- A phone number that is no longer assigned.

**Note**: a temporary error (full mailbox, server briefly unavailable), called a soft bounce, does not add the contact to the bounce list.

## Why it matters

Sending to invalid addresses harms the reputation of your sending domain and the deliverability of all your campaigns. The bounce list saves you these useless sendings.

**Best practice**: if you come from another emailing tool, import its bounce list before your first sending. Sarbacane can only detect invalid addresses after a first sending.
