# How do I create and update an unsubscribe list in Sarbacane Contacts?

Create an unsubscribe list, add contacts or domains to it, then associate it with your campaigns.

To stop writing to certain contacts, create an unsubscribe list in Sarbacane Contacts, add their addresses to it, then associate it with your Sarbacane Campaigns campaigns. If you do not change any settings, your campaigns will use the default unsubscribe list.

## Prerequisites

- Access to Sarbacane Contacts and Sarbacane Campaigns.

## Steps

### Create an unsubscribe list

1. In the left-hand menu in Sarbacane Contacts, open **Contact lists**, then click **Create a list** in the top right.

2. Select **Unsubscribe list**, then click **Select**.

3. Add contacts: **Import a file (.xlsx, .txt, .csv)**, **Manual entry** or **Copy / Paste**.

### Add or remove contacts

1. In **Contact lists**, open the **Unsubscribe lists** tab and click the list.

2. To add contacts: at the top left, next to the list name, click **•••**, then click **Add unsubscribed contacts**.

3. To exclude all addresses from a domain: open the domains tab, then click **•••** › **Blacklist domains**.

4. To remove a contact: click their row to select it (Ctrl + click to add others), then click **•••** › **Delete**.

### Associate or change a campaign’s unsubscribe list

1. In Sarbacane Campaigns, at the **Recipients** step (once recipients have been added), click **•••** in the top right, then click **Unsubscribe list(s)**. You can also access this from the **Message** step, under **Advanced settings**.

2. In the **Unsubscribe lists** window, click **Add a blacklist** and select your list. Repeat to associate multiple lists.

3. At the bottom of the window, click the green checkmark to confirm.

**Important**: a duplicated campaign retains the unsubscribe lists from the original campaign. Check them after each duplication.

## Expected result

Before sending, contacts included in the associated lists are excluded: they appear in the **Unsubscribed** tab of the **Recipients** step. Each recipient who unsubscribes from this campaign is automatically added to these same lists.

## Troubleshooting

### An unsubscribed contact is still receiving my campaigns

Check in this order:

1. The list containing it is associated with the campaign (**Unsubscription list(s)**), and the campaign was not duplicated from a campaign associated with other lists.

2. Was the campaign scheduled before the recipient unsubscribed? Recipients of a scheduled campaign are not updated at the time of sending: remove this contact from the campaign recipients yourself.

3. Was the contact deleted from the directory and then reimported? Deleting a contact from the directory also removes it from unsubscription lists: add it to your list again.

4. The list address is exactly the same as the recipient's address.

### “Unsubscription list(s)” does not appear in the ••• menu

The campaign has no recipients yet. Add some, or go to the **Message** step in **Advanced settings**.
