Sarbacane Campaigns: Enable/Disable Campaign Tracking in Google Analytics

information Information

This help center is dedicated to the new version of our software: Sarbacane Suite. If you are a user of the previous version, Sarbacane Sunrise, you can find here the help center related to this version of the software. The update of your account to switch to Sarbacane Suite will be proposed to you shortly by our teams.

From your account, regardless of your subscription plan, you can use the Google Analytics option.

This feature allows you to track and analyze the behavior of users who click on links that lead to your website(s). When an email link includes Google Analytics tracking parameters (via UTM), it collects data to evaluate the relevance of your communications sent from Sarbacane. This functionality provides insights into the impact and interest of your recipients by observing how many visits are generated on your website following your communications.

To activate this option, go to the Campaigns settings section in your account and simply toggle it on.

Once enabled, you’ll see your UTM settings:

UTM Source: Identifies that the visits are generated from your Sarbacane communications.

UTM Medium: Specifies whether the traffic comes from email or SMS communications.

UTM Campaign: Indicates precisely which communication generated the visits to your site. By default, a personalization field based on your campaign title is used, automatically adapting to all your emails without requiring modifications. This helps you distinguish the origin of visits.

You can also customize these UTMs for each campaign through the “Advanced Configuration” and then “Tracking” options.

This allows you to manage UTMs for each campaign individually if you need to make specific changes to the pre-configured UTMs.

When sending a test, if your links with UTMs are not working, here’s what you can do:

UTMs add a specific code to your URLs. In rare cases, incompatibilities between your campaign name and the added UTM can cause errors when accessing links. This issue often arises when numbers or dates are included in your communication name.

For example, during URL encoding, spaces must be replaced with specific codes since they cannot be used directly. The standard encoding for a space is %20. However, when combined with numbers, this can occasionally create incompatibilities in link redirection. Carefully test your messages before sending them to avoid these issues.
