Sarbacane Campaigns: I already have a domain name, how do I configure a sending subdomain?
This help center is dedicated to the new version of our software: Sarbacane Suite. If you are a user of the previous version, Sarbacane Sunrise, you can find here the help center related to this version of the software. The update of your account to switch to Sarbacane Suite will be proposed to you shortly by our teams.
If you already have a domain name (for example, the domain name of your website), we invite you to create one or more sending subdomains and not to use your main domain (the one for your website) for sending your emails.
What is a sending subdomain?
A sending subdomain is a part of your main domain specifically used for an activity (here, sending your marketing emails). Using a sending subdomain is a common practice in emailing to improve the deliverability of your emails, your sender reputation, and the security of your main domain. This allows you to clearly separate the email sending activities from the rest of your online infrastructure.
Before you start
Setting up a sending subdomain requires that you have previously validated your ability to publish new CNAME and TXT records in the DNS zone of the domain to be authenticated.
Also note that we will not be able to make these publications for you. If you are not sure if you can make the required publications in the DNS zone of your domain, refer to your IT department or your webmaster who are likely in contact with your hosting provider (OVH, Hostinger, GoDaddy, etc.) and will be able to do it for you.
Once this point is validated, you just have to follow the process below.
Setting up your sending subdomain in Sarbacane Campaigns
Step 1
Go to the settings of the Sarbacane Campaigns application, then to the "Domains" section.
Step 2
Then click on "Add a domain name".
Note: Here we will talk about "Domain configuration by delegation" because you delegate the management of the subdomain to Sarbacane. But it is you (or your technical teams) who should add the necessary records at your hosting provider.
Step 3
In the "Subdomain" field, enter the sending subdomain you want to use: For example, if your domain is "yourcompany.com", you can create a subdomain such as "newsletter.yourcompany.com". Then click on "Check" to verify its availability.
Step 4
Next, you will need to add (or have added) a TXT record at your hosting provider. This record will allow us to verify that you are the owner of the domain.
Step 5
Then add the NS records at your hosting provider.
For the subdomain newsletter.yourdomain.com, you must create 2 NS type records that must redirect to:
dns.customizedurl.com.
dns2.customizedurl.com.
WARNING: Don't forget the "." after customizedurl.com.
Once the propagation is done, you can finalize the registration of your domain in the application.
Attention: propagation times can spread over a period of 24 to 48 hours.
