Domain name customization offers several advantages for your business:

Improve your sender reputation and drastically reduce the risk of ending up in spam

Avoid identity theft and enhance your image

Enhance your reputation and campaign deliverability

Originally, spam filters relied on the reputation of the IP address. Blacklists of IP addresses considered "spammers" were created to detect spammers and filter their emails. Unfortunately, spammers circumvented this rule by frequently changing their IP addresses, making their identification nearly impossible.

To address this, ISPs and major webmail providers extended their codes of conduct to control the reputation of email senders.

This control involves 2 main levels:

The first level concerns authentication. It involves analyzing the domain name sending the email (from). This must be validated by correctly configuring your DKIM signature and SPF record. These two technologies authenticate one or more IP addresses, such as those of Sarbacane, as authorized to send emails from your domain name.

The second level concerns the site to which the links and images included in your email point. In order to measure the number of clicks on these links, routers set up redirection links using a domain name chosen by the sending platform. Ideally, these links should use the same domain name as your website.

By configuring your domain name on Sarbacane, you can customize your sending domain and behavioral tracking links.

This not only allows you to fully control your sender reputation but also to optimize the success of your deliveries.

Indeed, the default domain names used for sending your campaigns and behavioral tracking are shared domains: they are not linked to your company name or activity and are used by all Sarbacane users who do not have a custom domain.

By customizing your domain, you give yourself every chance of having your emails considered "safe" by ISPs and major webmail providers.

Avoid identity theft and enhance your image

You may have heard of identity theft? These individuals who appropriate someone else's identity in order to carry out fraudulent actions (such as purchases) under the guise of a false identity.

Well, the same principle can apply to emailing... It is very simple for an individual to create an address like "your-brand@gmail.com" and pretend to be you. This type of address may seem suspicious to your readers but also to some anti-spam services.

So much so that ISPs (Internet Service Providers) and major email clients (Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo, Orange, etc...) have adapted to these kinds of practices and have strengthened their anti-spam filtering policy.

Indeed, why would they agree to deliver emails that seem suspicious to them? Why would they let emails from "your-brand@gmail.com" with links in the message body all pointing to "www.your-brand.com" pass through?

One of the criteria used to determine if your email is legitimate or, on the contrary, is considered spam, is the coherence of your communication. If your sender identity is not consistent with the content of your message (especially your links), you will receive a negative rating that will be added to other criteria used to measure your reliability.

In the example above, coherence would require that your emails come from a sender address like "marketing@your-brand.com" or "firstname.lastname@your-brand.com" with links pointing to your website hosted on the domain "www.your-brand.com".

Thus, if you already have a site "www.your-brand.com" you have every interest in using this domain (or a subdomain like "mail.your-brand.com") as the sending address for your mailings. You will be even more reassuring for ISPs, who will be more inclined to let your email pass into the inbox, and for your recipients, as your sending domain will inspire confidence. They will thus be able to clearly identify your brand as the sender of the email and will be more likely to open your emails.
