The update of your account to switch to Sarbacane Suite will be proposed to you shortly by our teams.

In email or SMS marketing, precision in sending is crucial for claiming successful and effective campaigns.

In Sarbacane, you have the option to perform targeting from an already existing contact list, in order to send a campaign to a specific segment of your database.

This type of targeting is based on the data that you have entered into your list. It is a method different from targeting based on the statistics of a campaign.

To perform targeting, go to the "Contact Lists" tab of the Sarbacane Contacts application, and then enter the contact list on which you wish to perform targeting.

Click on the "Targeting" button next to the contact search bar in your list.

Targeting Criteria

Once you have clicked on this button, new options will appear on the screen, to the right of your list, and you can then start your targeting.

The two dropdown menus allow you to make combinations of conditions to restrict your list only to the contacts you are looking for.

The first dropdown menu contains your targeting variables. These variables correspond to the titles of your columns as well as the source of the contact's importation into the list.

By default, this menu contains the variables "Email" and "Source".

The second dropdown menu allows you to apply a condition to your variable.

For a column of type "Simple text field," you can choose from the following conditions:

  • is equal to / is different from
  • is filled in / is not filled in
  • starts with / does not start with
  • ends with / does not end with

For a column of type "Date field" or "Number field," you can choose from the following conditions:

  • is different from
  • is equal to
  • is after
  • is after or equal to
  • is before
  • is before or equal to
  • is between

The third box can be either a numeric selector for the condition of type "Number field" or "Date field," or a text field.

The combination of these 3 criteria thus creates a rule. As soon as you enter a rule, your contact counter decreases to keep only the corresponding recipients.

You can, of course, accumulate several rules to create one or several groups of rules, thus refining your targeting.

Groups and Rules: AND/OR Type Operators

It's important to distinguish between the concepts of rules and groups.

Rules

Each group is made up of a set of rules. The different rules within a group are separated by an "AND" type operator.

From a mathematical perspective, this means that each rule adds to the other, and for a contact to be retained, they must meet the conditions of all the rules in the group, not just one rule OR another. For example, if the following 2 rules have been defined:

Civility > Equals > Mister

Country > Equals > Italy

Only Italian men will be retained. A "Mister" whose country is "Spain" will not be retained in the selection, even though he meets the "Civility = Mister" condition.

The "+" on the right allows you to add a new rule to a group.

The set of rules within the same group is grouped in the same box to distinguish it from other groups.

In fact, you can add another group to your segmentation.

Groups

A group constitutes a sample of the population. A combination of several rules defines a group.

Each group (i.e., each subset of the population) is separated by an "OR" type operator.

From a mathematical point of view, if the segmentation includes a Group A and a Group B, this means that the segmentation adds individuals who meet the rules of Group A OR the rules of Group B. It is not necessary to match the segmentation criteria of both groups A and B for an individual to be retained in the segmentation.

Taking the example above:

  • Groupe A
    • Civility > Equals > Mister
    • Civility > Equals > Mister
  • Group B
    • Civility > Equals > Mister
    • Date of birth > Is after > 01/01/2000

The segmentation corresponds to the sum of contacts segmented in each Group. In this example, it will include individuals who meet all the rules of Group A + individuals who meet all the rules of Group B, i.e., men born before January 1, 1990 AND men born after January 1, 2000.

You can add a new group by clicking on the "+ New rule group" button.

Thus, you can create precise segmentations by combining multiple selection criteria. The more precise your segmentation, the more targeted your marketing campaigns will be, and the more likely they are to be read.

Management of Sharing Properties at the Target Level

Until now, targets in Sarbacane were systematically visible to all users. Now, it's possible to manage the sharing of your targets to compartmentalize their visibility according to your different user groups.

Only administrators and account owners can access sharing options. If the sharing options are not displayed, please contact your account administrator.

To access target sharing, choose the contact list of your choice, then click on the action menu on the right and select "View/Edit" from the dropdown menu.

You will arrive at a page where you can see your contact list in detail (number of contacts, email, first name, last name, etc.). Press the "Target" button.

Then select the target of your choice by pressing "Select a target". Then choose the desired target from the dropdown list.

Once the target is selected, click on the target's action menu and select "Target Properties" from the dropdown menu. If the "Target Properties" option is grayed out, it means your target is not yet saved. You must save your target previously to be able to share it.

You will arrive at a page where you can choose the user groups that can access the target. You simply need to check or uncheck the groups. Once your selection is made, you can validate it.
