Understanding the differences between these types of emails and their respective uses can help you maximize the effectiveness of your communications and provide a better experience to your users.

Definitions and Examples:

Marketing Emails:

Marketing emails are powerful tools for promoting your products, services, or special offers. These messages are sent to a contact list or specific segments of your audience. The main goal is to encourage engagement and promote specific actions, often for commercial purposes.

Examples of marketing emails:

  • Newsletters
  • Promotions and special offers
  • Product launches
  • Updates on your product or services
  • Event invitations

Transactional Emails

Transactional emails are designed to provide essential and reassuring information to your users following a specific action to build their trust in your brand. These emails confirm and/or provide information about a transaction or activity related to the user's account.

Examples of transactional emails

  • Account creation confirmation
  • Password reset
  • Order confirmation
  • Delivery notification
  • Appointment confirmation

Automated Campaigns

Automated campaigns are sequences of actions triggered automatically by events (such as a user's birthday, webinar, or event registration) or specific user actions (such as signing up on your website, downloading a whitepaper, or contacting via a form).

These scenarios may include sending emails, SMS, or adding to a contact list or unsubscribe list. They are designed to be responsive and personalized, catering to individual user behaviors.

Each step of the scenario is subject to conditions (clicked / not clicked, opened / not opened, etc.) and timing (sent x hours or days after the previous step).

Examples of automated scenarios

  • Welcome email after an account creation on your website
  • Birthday email on the contact's birthday or anniversary of their registration
  • Abandoned cart emails
  • Re-engagement scenario for inactive contacts
  • Scenario related to event participation (emails with useful information before the event, follow-up emails post-event)

This type of email is managed through the Sarbacane Campaigns application.
