What is a preheader? It is the sentence that appears in the preview of your inbox next to or below the email subject.

It generally complements the email subject and provides a preview of the campaign content. Therefore, it plays a crucial role in optimizing the open rate.

How to add a pre-header to your email campaigns in Sarbacane Campaigns?

No coding knowledge is necessary to add a preheader to your campaigns with Sarbacane Campaigns. You simply need to fill in the "Pre-header" field at the "Message" step of your email campaign.

As with the subject, an indicator helps you determine the ideal length of your preheader.

If it is too long, the indicator will change from green to yellow and then to red. This is a guide based on an estimation of the readability of your pre-header in most inboxes. Under no circumstances can this indicator reveal the quality or relevance of the wording of your preheader.

The preheader of your campaign will be visible in the preview of your recipients' inbox but will not appear in the body of your campaign's message.

Be careful: If you forget to fill in a preheader for your email in the corresponding field, the default will be the first sentence of your message body, which will be detected as the pre-header by webmails and other inboxes.

What is the right length for a preheader?

The main difficulty in writing a preheader is that the displayed length varies depending on the recipients' inboxes and the reading device (computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.) used by your recipients. Generally, the ideal recommended length to display correctly in most inboxes is 30 to 35 characters.

Here is a summary of the number of characters displayed by some email clients, ISPs, webmails, and reading devices. Be aware, these figures can of course vary from one device to another depending on the settings of the inboxes (notably the width reserved for email previews) and the size of the screen.
